Grayson County used a steady ground attack and timely defense to defeat Warren Central 30–12 on Friday night at Cougar Stadium, inching closer to a playoff berth in Class 5A, District 2.
Senior running back Ethan Mudd rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore Jamycen Buster added 77 rushing yards and a pair of scores — one on the ground and one through the air.
The Cougars jumped ahead early as Mudd capped a first-quarter drive with a one-yard touchdown. Buster followed with an 11-yard run midway through the second to make it 14–0. Warren Central’s Walter Moore cut into the lead with a 10-yard run late in the half, but Lane Beasley’s 26-yard field goal in the closing seconds gave Grayson a 17–6 halftime advantage.
After the break, Mudd’s second touchdown run extended the margin to 24–6 before Moore answered again for the Dragons. However, the Cougars sealed the win in the fourth when quarterback Jake Bratcher connected with Buster for a touchdown pass to put the game out of reach.
Defensively, Jace McCallister forced a fumble that Mudd recovered, halting a Central drive.
Bratcher finished 4-of-10 passing for 90 yards, while Buster and Kayden Tyner each hauled in big completions of 35 yards.
Grayson County improved to 4–4 overall and 1–2 in district play. The Cougars can clinch a playoff spot if Barren County defeats Warren Central this week, or with a win over Bowling Green on Friday.
Warren Central dropped to 3–5 with the loss.
