Human remains discovered in eastern Kentucky earlier this week have been identified.
Kentucky State Police said the remains were found on Monday night at approximately 8:30 near Inez in Martin County. The remains were located in a wooded area off Coldwater Road, about eight miles south of Inez.
On Thursday, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office told new outlets that the remains are likely that of Jody Pauley, 59, of Inez. He was reported missing on April 22, 2025. He was last seen alive on March 4, 2025, in Inez.
Martin County Sheriff John Kirk said a wallet containing Pauley’s ID was found near the remains, and family members identified clothing found with the remains as belonging to Pauley.
A cause of death has not been established. Pauley’s remains were transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for examination.
