A Glendale man was robbed at gunpoint by a man the victim knows.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office said the incident took place in the 700 block of Star Mills Road on Friday.

Deputies were dispatched to the area at approximately 2:29 p.m. Friday afternoon after “receiving a report of a robbery and stolen vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said. Upon arriving at the residence, the victim told deputies he had been robbed “by an individual known to him.”

The victim told police the suspect, 47-year-old Charles F. Austin Jr., of Shepherdsville, was armed with a handgun and that the suspect stole his vehicle, which contained a firearm.

The sheriff’s office issued a “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO), resulting in the victim’s stolen vehicle being “detected by a Flock camera in Elizabethtown,” the sheriff’s office said.

A short time later, Elizabethtown Police Department officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit on southbound I-65.

“The vehicle crashed just north of the Sonora exit, and the suspect fled on foot,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Elizabethtown officers quickly captured Austin.

He was charged with first-degree robbery, theft by unlawful taking (auto), receiving stolen property (firearm), two counts of fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle, on foot), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, third-degree assault of a police/probation officer, second-degree criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), felony wanton endangerment of a police officer, felony wanton endangerment, and speeding 26 or more mph over the limit.

Austin was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
