The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will be in Hardinsburg until Monday.
The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall is a 3/5 scale model of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C., as it stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet (100 yards) from end-to-end, according to TravelingWall.US.
“This Traveling Memorial stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. It was made for the purpose of helping heal and rekindle friendships and to allow people the opportunity to visit loved ones in their hometown who otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington,” TravelingWall.US says on its website.
The Wall will be open for viewing until approximately 6:30 a.m. on Monday on the Courthouse Square in Hardinsburg.
The Opening Ceremony was held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, and there will a Quilts of Valor Ceremony on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
The Closing Ceremony is scheduled for Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
The Greater Breckinridge County Chamber of Commerce said in a social media post that it “wishes to convey a special invitation to all servicemen, both current and former, as the community pays tribute to the sacrifice of those who gave their all for our great country.”
The majority of Hardinsburg’s Courthouse Square will be closed for the duration of the memorial’s stay. Main Street will only be closed as needed for the setup and breakdown of the wall.
