Several first responder agencies worked to rescue two people who were injured after an ATV traveled 400 feet over a hillside in Johnson County.
W.R. Castle Fire & Rescue said its personnel assisted the Flat Gap Fire Department on Saturday evening at around 11:20 on an “old logging road” off Ramey Brand Road after two victims suffered injuries in an ATV crash.
“The accident occurred several miles up a hill on an old logging road. Access to the scene was delayed due to the victims’ unknown location, poor road conditions, and ongoing rain during rescue operations,” W.R. Castle Fire & Rescue said in a social media post.
The ATV had traveled over a hillside approximately 400 feet, as rope technicians from the Oil Springs Fire Department and W.R. Castle Fire & Rescue worked to rescue the two victims alongside specialized ATVs provided by the Red Bush Fire and Rockhouse Departments.
“Several volunteer firefighters, along with Paintsville EMS and deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office hiked through rugged terrain to locate and assist the injured victims,” according to W.R. Castle Fire & Rescue.
The two victims were taken down the hill to awaiting ambulances. They were then transported to Paintsville Appalachian Regional Hospital.
