A police chase has ended in the suspect turning a firearm on himself.
Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating after 26-year-old Robert Wray, of Kevil, committed suicide after leading police on a chase in Marshall and McCracken counties.
The incident occurred on Friday evening at approximately 8:00 when a Marshall County deputy observed a 1995 Chevrolet truck, with a flat tire and pulling a camper, being driven in a reckless manner, according to state police.
The deputy attempted a traffic stop on Hardmoney Road (Hwy 348) south of Paducah, but the vehicle fled, as the camper disconnected from the truck.
Deputies from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Paducah Police Department, joined the pursuit, which traveled into the Lone Oak area in south Paducah where Wray “fired shots in the direction of officers,” according to state police.
Police then executed a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) to try and end the pursuit.
“The vehicle pursuit ultimately came to an end,” state police said, “when the suspect’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a residence on Lone Oak Road.”
Following the crash, state police said Wray was found to have suffered a gunshot wound, which, at this time, appears to be self-inflicted.
Wray was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
“No law enforcement officers fired their weapons during this incident,” state police said.
