A man has been sentenced after living with his dead wife for over a week and not reporting her death.

Tyler Hern, 42, of Highland Heights, was arrested in February after the Highland Heights Police Department responded to an apartment in the 300 block of Grey Stable Lane after Hern called 911 and said his wife was deceased.

When police arrived, they discovered 37-year-old Laura Hern deceased on her bed and covered in a sheet. Based on the decay of the body, police determined she had been dead for at least a week.

Tyler Hern, according to WKYT.com, had been using his wife’s cellphone to text relatives in an attempt to hide her death.

While medical examiners, according to FOX19.com, said there were no injuries on Laura Hern’s body and no signs of foul play, Tyler Hern told dispatchers when he called 911 that his wife suffered from pancreatitis and that this time “it didn’t go away.”

Tyler Hern, who was charged with abuse of a corpse for failing to notify authorities about his wife’s death, was sentenced earlier this week to 15 months in prison.
