A Caneyville man with a history of theft and burglary charges has been arrested on burglary and other charges after being caught on surveillance video.
The incident began on Wednesday morning, November 5 at approximately 4:05 when the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint regarding a masked suspect burglarizing a residence on City Lake Road in Caneyville.
A deputy responded but did not spot anyone around the residence. The homeowner, though, showed the deputy surveillance video of the suspect “on the porch attempting to enter the home,” according to the arrest citation.
The deputy left the scene, but later that morning the homeowner called police again and said the suspect had “stabbed his car tire in the side wall with scissors,” the citation states.
Chief Deputy Sonny Poteet then responded to the home (the other deputy’s shift was over) and watched the surveillance video where Poteet was able to identify the suspect as 41-year-old Nicholas E. Embry.
Poteet and a Kentucky State Police trooper responded to Embry’s residence on Watershed Road. Police showed Embry the surveillance video, as Embry, according to the citation, admitted it was him in the video and that he was “looking for a female.”
Embry, while being questioned, admitted to taking lawn equipment from the residence and to stabbing the tire.
He was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking.
Embry was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Embry’s arrest history
Embry was also arrested in March 2023 in Grayson County and charged with second-degree burglary, tampering with physical evidence and receiving stolen property, according to online records.
Embry in that case was charged with receiving stolen property (more than $500, less than $10,000), possession of burglary tools, tampering with physical evidence, public intoxication (controlled substance), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
