
A drunk driver crashed into a school bus containing 12 northern Kentucky students.
The incident happened on Friday afternoon at approximately 2:30 in Alexandria when 42-year-old Donald M. Weinel, of Newport, crashed into the Campbell County Schools bus on Hwy 27, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
One student was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Weinel was arrested and charged with 14 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI (aggravating circumstances) and first-degree criminal mischief.
He was lodged in the Campbell County Detention Center on a $140,000 cash bond.
The Alexandria Police Department released the following statement on the incident:
“Operating under the influence is a serious offense. We will continue to be vigilant in detecting and enforcing impaired driving. We are grateful no one was seriously injured during this incident. Thank you to Campbell County Schools, Campbell Fire Rescue, and Campbell County Police for their assistance during this incident.”
