A convenience store employee has been charged with fabricating a story that he was the victim of an armed robbery “to conceal his own criminal actions,” according to Kentucky State Police.

The incident occurred Wednesday morning at approximately 9:45 at a Marathon convenience store in the 9800 block of Hwy 60 in Rush in Boyd County when an employee, 32-year-old Jessie McDaniels, of Ashland, reported an armed robbery.

Upon troopers arriving at the scene, McDaniels said that two armed men entered the store, held him at gunpoint and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, state police said.

“During the investigation,” state police said, “several inconsistencies in the employee’s account were identified.”

Further examination of evidence and interviews revealed that “McDaniels fabricated the report in an effort to conceal his own criminal actions,” as investigators determined that no armed robbery had occurred.

McDaniels was charged with false reporting of an incident.
