Grayson County Fiscal Court honored recently retired County Clerk Charlotte Willis for her three decades of service to the county and teased a land purchase at Thursday’s meeting.

Willis, who was first elected Grayson County Clerk in 2018, retired effective October 31, 2025, after serving 23 years as deputy clerk and seven years as county clerk.

“We wanted to recognize you … and show our appreciation for your service to Grayson County,” Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson told Willis.

“I’m enjoying it (retirement), I really am. and I miss my customers and dealing with people in the county,” Willis said.

She was then presented with a plaque by Henderson and Fiscal Court honoring Willis for her 30 years of service to Grayson County.

She was only 19 when she began working for the Clerk’s Office in February 1995. Willis was hired by then County Clerk Margaret Woosley after Willis was spotted working at the Piggly Wiggly where she displayed a smiling, friendly demeanor with customers.

During her over three decades employed at the Clerk’s Office, Willis also worked under Clerks Carletta Farris and Sherry Weedman.

Willis told K105 regarding her retirement, “It’s time,” as she noted she would like to spend more time with her family.

Tonya Kessinger, who has worked for the Clerk’s Office for nearly three decades, was appointed by  Henderson to serve the remainder of Willis’ term, which ends on December 31, 2026.

“Charlotte has been a great clerk and was instrumental in the process of moving the office into the new location on E. Market Street to better serve the residents of Grayson County,” Henderson said when K105 first reported on Willis’ retirement. “We will definitely miss Charlotte and wish her nothing but the best in her retirement.”

Land purchase

While saying he can’t reveal much information on the topic at this time, Henderson said the county is looking to purchase property within the city limits of Leitchfield for “future industrial development.”

“We can’t disclose where the property is at this time, but we will probably by the next meeting,” Henderson noted.

The next regularly scheduled Fiscal Court meeting is on December 18.
