A man who told police to turn off their lights as they served an arrest warrant has been shot and killed after raising a firearm toward troopers.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team responded to the shooting on Saturday night at approximately 11:45 in the Martha community in rural Lawrence County.
The KSP investigation showed that Post 14 troopers were attempting to locate a female who had active arrest warrants for an assault when they discovered the woman was at a residence in the 5500 block of Hwy 1715 in Martha.
Upon troopers arriving at the scene, they were confronted by a neighbor of the woman, 69-year-old Timothy L. Keeton, who “told the troopers to turn their lights off or he would shoot them out,” according to state police.
Keeton then briefly went back into his residence and returned with a firearm.
Troopers ordered Keeton to put the firearm down, but he instead raised the gun in the direction of the troopers, resulting in the troopers fatally shooting Keeton.
