In a cautionary tale tinged with a teenage boy’s bravery, a brother displayed heroic efforts after his 14-year-old sibling’s clothes caught fire after he stood too close to a propane heater.

The incident, according to the Bardstown Fire Department, happened on Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:15 when the 14-year-old boy’s hoodie caught fire as he stood near a propane heater in a garage at Rogans Trailer Park on North 3rd Street in Bardstown.

The boy’s teenage brother, who was also in the garage, ripped the burning hoodie off his sibling and extinguished the fire.

The 14-year-old suffered second-degree burns on his back and right arm. He was transported to Norton Children’s Hospital where he is being treated in the burn unit.

The Bardstown Fire Department presented a congratulatory coin to the victim’s brother for his quick and decisive action that possibly saved his brother’s life, and definitely limited the injuries he received.
