The man who crashed into a vehicle and residence in Caneyville before fleeing on foot has been arrested.
Grayson County Deputies Joel Baker, Hunter Miller and Caleb Fisher arrested 42-year-old Barry E. Payton, of Caneyville, on Center Street in Caneyville on Monday night at approximately 9:00.
When the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, they found that the southbound van left the roadway and traveled on a steep embankment before jumping a driveway. The van then struck the resident’s Toyota Highlander and house as it wedged between the two.
The home’s occupant briefly made contact with Payton before he fled on foot. Deputies Baker, Miller and Fisher searched for the suspect for well over an hour with no luck.
The home and Highlander suffered moderate damage. The occupant was not injured.
Payton was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a DUI suspended license and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
