Leitchfield firefighters battled a house fire as a live electrical line fell on a fire truck.
The Leitchfield Fire Department and Grayson Co. Emergency Management responded to the fire in the 200 block of West Market Street at approximately 11:50 Thursday afternoon. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found smoke coming from the attic of the residence.
Multiple firefighters entered the home and attacked fire that was found in the attic and walls of the structure. Firefighters extinguished the fire by 12:15 p.m. and conducted an overhaul, ensuring no hot spots remained.
Adding an increased level of danger to the scene was a live power line that fell on a quint/ladder truck that was parked directly in front of the residence. The line fell when the fire, which began in the home’s electrical panel (aka fuse box, breaker box), burned through the thick wire, according to Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall.
A Kentucky Utilities employee quickly arrived at the scene and disconnected electricity to the line.
The fire truck, which was recently purchased for $1.4 million, was not damaged.
Duvall noted that the wiring in the home was replaced within the last year or so, but the wiring within the electrical panel was not replaced. He said that wiring was likely as old as the home.
There were no injuries reported and firefighters cleared the scene at 12:50 p.m.
