18-year-old formally charged with 3 counts of murder after crash kills 3 teen passengers

An 18-year-old has been formally charged with three counts of murder among other felonies in a crash that killed three teenagers in October.

Asa R. Howard, of Edmonton, was indicted by a Barren County Grand Jury on three counts of murder, first-degree assault and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, according to a report by WBKO.com.

The crash happened in Glasgow on October 17 at approximately 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Jackson Highway and Veterans Outer Loop, according to the Glasgow Police Department.

Glasgow police said the investigation showed that a 2016 Nissan Altima, being driven Howard, was traveling north on North Jackson Highway when the vehicle struck a 2017 Toyota Highlander, being driven by Timothy Houchens, of Glasgow, that was traveling east on Veterans Outer Loop.

“Immediately after the collision, Howard fled the scene on foot before returning to the scene of the accident and was manifestly under the influence of an intoxicating substance,” Glasgow police said in a press release.

Alcohol was found at the scene.

Emily Corbin, 18, of Hart County, a passenger in Howard’s vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other passengers in the Altima, a 14-year-old from Bowling Green and a 17-year-old from Edmonton, also died at the scene.

Howard and his 18-year-old passenger, Caden French, of Glasgow, were airlifted from TJ Samson Community Hospital to an unknown hospital.

Jabari Sweat, 21, of Glasgow, a passenger in the Altima, was transported to TJ Samson Community Hospital and later released. Houchens and his passenger, Stephen Estes, were transported to TJ Samson Community Hospital.

Howard has been held at the Barren County Detention Center since November 1. His bond has been set at $750,000 cash.
