A man is accused of attacking his grandfather with an axe and breaking the victim’s arm.
Kentucky State Police arrested 24-year-old Connor Mullins, of Morehead, on Sunday afternoon and charged him with first-degree assault, third-degree terroristic threatening and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident occurred Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:00 at a residence in the 100 block of Sweetgum Lane, about five miles southwest of Morehead, when Mullins attacked his grandfather, Danny Tackitt, with a tomahawk axe.
The arrest citation, according to a report by WLEX.com, said troopers observed a trail of blood on the floor and wall of the home as well as a “bloody Native American tomahawk” on a chair.
The victim’s wife told police that she heard a “big loud sound” as her husband yelled. When she looked into the living room, she witnessed Mullins hit her husband in the head with a tomahawk axe.
Tackitt, who suffered a broken arm and deep laceration to his head, was airlifted to a West Virginia hospital, WKYT.com reports.
According to online records, Tackitt is 76-years-old.
Mullins, who was in possession of multiple empty syringes, was lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
Online records indicate Mullins’ arrest history dates back to 2020, as he has been arrested for possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO, third-degree terroristic threatening, public intoxication (excludes alcohol), resisting arrest, and tampering with physical evidence along with other counts.
