A woman has been charged after her small child was found wandering the streets of Hopkinsville while temperatures were in the mid-20s.
The Hopkinsville Police Department responded Monday afternoon to Moores Court after a six-year-old child was seen outside in 26-degree temperatures, according to a report by WSMV.com.
The boy was wearing what was described as “summer clothing.” A Good Samaritan placed the child in her car as she called police.
Police looked for the boy’s mother, 24-year-old Aniyah Lewis, but officers were unable to locate her. She arrived at the police department three hours after her child was found. Additionally, Lewis “demonstrated no urgency or concern regarding the juvenile’s welfare,” police said.
She was charged with abandonment of a minor and lodged in the Christian County Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.
The boy was turned over to his grandmother.
