The Leitchfield City Council on Monday night approved new members of the Leitchfield youth softball committee, as well as a new Utilities Commission member in addition to hearing two rezoning requests.

Leitchfield Parks & Recreation Director Trent VanMeter presented eight proposed members that would comprise the Leitchfield youth softball committee: John Cockerel, Alan Dotson, Brittany Clemons, Todd Saltsman, Tara Meredith, Cindy Taylor, and Dillon Simpson.

The council unanimously approved all eight members.

VanMeter continues to work on gathering eight members for the Leitchfield youth baseball committee. He will present those names to the council when the process is complete.

Reading of rezoning requests

The council heard the first readings of two rezoning requests.

  • The first request is for the property 650-feet southeast of the intersection of Elizabethtown Road (Hwy 62) and Grayson Springs Road (Hwy 1214). The property, owned by Pat Wilson Construction, LLC, is currently zoned R-1 (single family, low density) and is requested to be changed to C-1 (highway commercial).
  • The second request is for 109 Maple Street. The property is currently zoned R-6 (manufactured home park), with the request asking for a change to R-2A (single family, high density).

The Planning Commission held a Public Hearing on the two rezoning requests on January 12, 2026. The commission voted to recommend the city council approve both requests.

(One Planning Commission member, Kendall Clemons, recused himself from the vote on the property 650-feet southeast of the intersection of Elizabethtown Rd. and Grayson Springs Rd.)

The council will hear second readings and hold votes on the requests at its next meeting on February 2.

Executive Session

The council held a 25-minute Executive Session where a potential new member of the Utilities Commission, Keith Lucas, was interviewed.

Lucas was then unanimously approved as a new member of the Utilities Commission. His term will run from March 1, 2026, to February 28, 2030.

Also during the Executive Session, City Attorney Earlene Wilson said she gave an update to the council regarding “pending litigation.” No votes were conducted concerning the matter and no public updates were offered.
