Hart Co. man freezes to death. Winter storm death toll now at 15

The death toll attributed to Winter Storm Fern has risen to 15, including the hypothermia-related death of a Hart County man.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced that three new deaths, a 73-year-old man in Ballard County, a 66-year-old man in Daviess County and a 64-year-old man in Hart County pushed the number of deaths from 12 to 15.

The Hart County victim, Ricky Turner, died in his home when a space heater did not provide enough heat, as Hart County Coroner Anthony Roberts told media outlets that Turner “froze to death.

The Daviess County victim died while shoveling snow on Saturday night, the latest to perish due to the winter storm. His identity has not been released.

In Ballard County, in the Jackson Purchase region in far western Kentucky, Mickey Beasley died when the camper he was living in caught fire due to the camper’s heating source.

Fern-related deaths have also occurred in Fayette, Jefferson, Morgan, Whitley, Pulaski, Graves, Owen, and Livingston counties.
