Elderly Adair Co. woman’s death blamed on winter storm

The death toll attributed to the winter storm that struck Kentucky on January 24 and 25  has risen to 16.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced on Tuesday that a 75-year-old Adair County woman passed away due to Winter Storm Fern. She was found outside her home on Saturday morning. Her identity has not been released.

K105 reported earlier this week that one of the latest victims of the storm was 64-year-old Ricky Turner, of Hart County, who froze to death, according to the Hart County Coroner’s Office.

In addition to the Adair County woman and Hart County’s Ricky Turner, Fern victims include: A 72-year-old woman in Whitley County, a 48-year-old man in Morgan County, a 79-year-old man in Graves County, a 68-year-old man in Daviess County, a 66-year-old man in Daviess County, a 62-year-old man in Pulaski County, two 71-year-old men in Johnson County, a 64-year-old man in Johnson County, a 78-year-old man in Owen County, a 55-year-old man in Livingston County, a 32-year-old woman in Fayette County, a 73-year-old man in Ballard County, and a 55-year-old man in Jefferson County.

As of Tuesday, the winter storm claimed 153 lives across the U.S.
