A Grayson County man’s death is being blamed on Winter Storm Fern.

John R. Noblett, 77, of Leitchfield, died on January 26 at noon after being found unresponsive off Buffalo Road (off Owensboro Road), according to the Grayson County Coroner’s Office.

EMS and the Leitchfield Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 10:00 a.m., as Noblett was found unresponsive by his truck which had become stuck in a creek bed in single digit temperatures, according to the Grayson County Coroner’s Office. He had been exposed to the elements for several minutes, and his feet were resting in a creek.

The victim had been feeding his livestock when his truck became stuck.

Noblett was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased by the Grayson County Coroner’s Office.

“After reviewing the circumstances surrounding the case, the cause of death was ruled accidental hypothermic cardiac arrest related to the winter storm,” the Grayson County Coroner’s Office said.

Accidental hypothermic cardiac arrest is an “involuntary drop in core body temperature resulting in cardiopulmonary arrest,” according to the National Library of Medicine.
