An eastern Kentucky teacher has been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for attempting to entice a former student into having sex by sending sexually explicit messages online.

Jordan Cobb, 32, of Salyersville, was sentenced in federal court to 132 months in prison (11 years), according to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

The plea agreement states that in April and May 2023, Cobb was employed as a middle school teacher in Magoffin County when he engaged in a Snapchat conversation with a former student of his, who was a juvenile.

During the conversation, Cobb sent the minor a series of sexually explicit messages, offered to provide the minor with marijuana, and made a plan to meet for sex, according to prosecutors.

Under federal law, Cobb must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 10 years.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI and Kentucky State Police.
