A man previously convicted of fleeing police and burglary has been arrested with stolen property and burglary tools following a pursuit that ended on Anneta Road (Hwy 259) early Monday morning.
The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Leitchfield Police Department were alerted by Ohio County Dispatch at 1:27 a.m. Monday that a pursuit with speeds “well over 100 miles per hour” was underway by Ohio County deputies at the 80-mile marker of the eastbound Western Kentucky Parkway.
Grayson County Deputies Philip Wilt and Caleb Fisher along with Leitchfield Officers Wally Ritter and Tamara Jupin responded to multiple strategic locations along the parkway to assist.
At 1:37 a.m., Ohio County deputies reported that they had lost sight of the fleeing vehicle, a silver Honda Ridgeline, at the 97-mile marker between Caneyville and Leitchfield.
Approximately one minute later, Ritter and Fisher made contact with the vehicle as the pursuit continued when police caught up with Spadie as he exited the parkway at the Leitchfield exit.
The Honda, being driven by 30-year-old Jeffrey D. Spadie, of Louisville, turned south onto Anneta Road, as Ritter and Fisher gave chase with no traffic in sight.
Spadie, while traveling approximately 50 miles per hour, left the 1600 block of Anneta Road at about 1:40 a.m. He was quickly taken into custody by police.
The suspect was transported by Ritter to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center for a blood draw before being lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Spadie was charged with fleeing over evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, possession of burglary tools, receiving stolen property, tampering with physical evidence, disregarding a stop sign, and persistent felony offender.
The suspect, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, was convicted in Jefferson County in June 2023 for complicity to commit third-degree burglary, and in Bullitt County in November 2022 for fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), two counts of receiving stolen property, first-degree wanton endangerment, and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
Spadie is on probation until June 15, 2027.
