A reckless driver complaint led the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office to arrest a man on several warrants, including parole violation warrants for burglary and drug possession.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:40 when Grayson County Deputy Caleb Fisher responded to the westbound Western Kentucky Parkway on the report of a reckless driver in a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu, according to the arrest citation.

Fisher made contact with the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of South Main Street in Leitchfield.

Upon making contact with the driver, the man told Fisher he did not have his driver’s license on him, and proceeded to give the deputy a false social security number and fake name. After being told by the deputy that giving an officer a false name is illegal, the driver again gave Fisher the same fake name, the citation states.

The man was then detained, as Fisher worked to determine his identity. A passenger in the Chevy then told the deputy that the driver’s name was James Boyd, information that was confirmed by Fisher via a law enforcement database.

After being questioned again about his name, the driver admitted his name was James E. Boyd.

Boyd, 46, of Utica, was arrested and charged with giving an officer false identifying information and driving on a suspended operator’s license.

Fisher also determined that Boyd had four warrants for his arrest. According to court documents, one of the warrants was for a parole violation after Boyd was convicted in Daviess County for third-degree burglary, while another was for a parole violation related to his convictions for possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), also in Daviess County.

While being processed into the Grayson County Detention Center, deputy jailers found a methamphetamine pipe with “burnt residue” hidden in a sock, and a “one dollar bill folded up on Mr. Boyd’s person with a white powder like substance on it,” the citation states.

As a result, Boyd was also charged with first-degree promoting contraband.
