A Breckinridge County man has been jailed after being accused of slamming into a deputy’s cruiser twice before leading police on a pursuit.

The incident happened on Tuesday night near midnight when a Breckinridge County deputy spotted a 2005 Chevrolet truck traveling 72 miles per hour in the 5300 block of Hwy 259, according to WXBC.com. The deputy attempted a traffic stop as the truck entered a driveway, but the vehicle, being driven by 65-year-old Ernest Lee Dean III, of Harned, slammed into the deputy’s cruiser twice, pushing the cruiser into the roadway.

Dean then fled in the truck, as he traveled south on Hwy 259, at times in the opposite lane of travel as the suspect forced a vehicle off the roadway.

The pursuit ended in the 400 block of Wilsons Wilderness Lane, between Harned and McDaniels.

Dean was arrested and charged with felony wanton endangerment of a police officer, felony wanton endangerment, DUI (controlled substance), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), fleeing or evading police, possession of marijuana, speeding 17 mph over the limit, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to maintain insurance.

He was lodged in the Breckinridge County Detention Center.
