Firefighters and Grayson County EMS rescued a dog from a residence following a fire that started in a stove.

The Leitchfield and Falls of Rough Fire Departments responded Friday morning at approximately 9:00 to the report of a fire that began in a stove at a home on Warren Purcell Spur Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters observed smoke was coming from the home, as firefighters entered the residence and battled the blaze that had moved from the stove into the walls and ceilings of the structure.

Despite efforts, the residence was a total loss.

As firefighters were conducting an overhaul, Leitchfield FD Captain David Johnson located the elderly female resident’s dog still inside the home.

Firefighters removed the dog from the residence, as Leitchfield firefighter Thomas Walton and Grayson County EMS paramedic Jessi Fentress gave the dog oxygen and evaluated the animal’s condition.

At last check, the dog was doing well.
