An impaired truck driver is facing vehicular manslaughter and DUI charges after allegedly causing a fatal crash while attempting an illegal U-turn.

Kentucky State Police said troopers were dispatched to the crash on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in the 4800 block of Ft. Campbell Boulevard in Hopkinsville.

State police said the preliminary investigation showed that a semi-truck, being driven by 36-year-old Gerasimos Livieratos, of Chicago, Illinois, was traveling south when Livieratos attempted to make an illegal U-turn. As the semi was executing the turn, it collided with a northbound sedan, being driven by 33-year-old Bernice Franklin, of Clarksville, Tennessee.

Franklin, according to state police, was pronounced deceased at the scene (WKDZ.com reports that Franklin died at Jennie Stuart Health).

Livieratos was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide when under the influence of drugs/substance, DUI (aggravating circumstances), reckless driving, failure to or improper signal, improper turning, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Livieratos was lodged in the Christian County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Troopers Nathan Pedigo and Ethan Garrison.
