Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown is participating in a crash awareness reduction effort.
Post 4 troopers will participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) through Tuesday. Troopers will join law enforcement agencies across the nation in a coordinated effort to improve roadway safety and reduce preventable crashes.
“This effort is timely, as schools throughout the state begin taking their scheduled spring break, which typically leads to increased travel,” KSP Post 4 Public Affairs Officer Bryan Washer said. “Operation C.A.R.E., organized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, is designed to increase public awareness and enforcement aimed at dangerous driving behaviors that contribute to serious and fatal crashes.”
During the campaign, troopers will conduct enhanced patrols throughout the region, intended to remind motorists that safe driving decisions can save lives.
Captain Jeremy Smith, commander of KSP Post 4, believes this effort will help keep Kentucky’s roadways safe for everyone.
“Operation C.A.R.E. is an opportunity for our troopers to proactively address the behaviors that most often lead to serious crashes,” Smith said. “By increasing patrols and engaging with the public, we hope to encourage safer driving habits and help ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.”
KSP encourages motorists to travel responsibly and remain aware during the upcoming spring travel season:
- Stay Focused on Driving – Keep your attention on the road and avoid distractions such as cell phone use.
- Buckle Up – Seatbelts remain one of the most effective ways to reduce injuries and fatalities in crashes.
- Never Drive Impaired – Alcohol and drugs can affect your ability to drive safely. Plan ahead and arrange for a sober ride if needed.
- Report Unsafe Driving – If you observe suspected criminal activity, contact your nearest KSP Post.
