The Caneyville Fire Department, with assistance from two Grayson County fire departments, battled a large woods fire on Friday.

The fire occurred on Friday afternoon at approximately 3:00 in the 800 block of Ready Jackson Road, off the 3800 block of Bowling Green Road (Hwy 185).

Upon Caneyville firefighters arriving on the scene, they found several acres on fire in a heavily wooded area, as the Leitchfield and Falls of Rough Fire Departments also responded and provided mutual aid.

The fire, which was difficult to access due to uneven terrain, was spread by a steady wind. Firefighters, though, stopped the blaze, which burned multiple trees, from spreading over a ridgeline and into a valley.

It took firefighters about two hours to bring the blaze under control. The Kentucky Division of Forestry (KDF) arrived and bulldozed the area to ensure there were no fire flareups.

The blaze was sparked when a pine tree fell on a power line.

KDF told Caneyville Fire Chief Brian Pharris that the fire burned nearly eight acres.

Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 4:45.
