A man was shot by police after tasers failed to control the suspect.
Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting that took place on Sunday morning at approximately 2:00 in Paintsville.
State police said the investigation revealed that a Paintsville Police Department officer was on foot patrol when he observed a motorcycle parked on Main Street which matched the description of a stolen motorcycle.
A short time later, the officer encountered 37-year-old Shawn Gayheart, of Salyersville, who fled police on foot for a short distance. Once the officer caught Gayheart, the suspect began fighting, according to state police.
A second Paintsville officer arrived to assist, as both officers deployed tasers to gain control of Gayheart, but were unsuccessful. The officers then shot Gayheart.
He was transported to the Pikeville Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.
State police said officers found a knife and firearm at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
