A Grayson County man facing nearly a dozen felony charges in Butler County is facing new counts in Grayson County after claiming to be someone else.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39-year-old Joseph W. Thomas, of Clarkson, on a failure to comply with bond conditions warrant out of Butler County.

According to court documents, he faces 11 felony counts, including engaging in organized crime, two counts of theft by unlawful taking, two counts of receiving stolen property, two counts of second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree criminal mischief, and being a persistent felony offender.

His bond was set at $50,000 cash.

Thomas was also served with an indictment warrant out of Butler County charging him with first-degree bail jumping and persistent felony offender. The indictment warrant bond was set at $25,000 cash.

As K105 previously reported, Thomas’ charges are the result of his arrest, along with another suspect, in May 2025 for allegedly committing burglaries on McKendree Chapel Road and Al Embry Road on the same day. Thomas was accused of stealing jewelry, a go-cart and a Honda 4-wheeler along with other items.

Thomas was arrested soon after committing the crimes by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office in the 600 block of Bryant Hollow Road, northeast of Morgantown. The stolen items were recovered.

Thomas picks up additional charges

The Grason County Sheriff’s Office, while serving the Butler County warrants, arrested Thomas on Decker School Road, as he initially told police his name was “Jake Richardson,” according to the arrest citation.

After being told multiple times that giving false identifying information to an officer is against the law, Thomas continued to claim he was someone else.

Deputies, though, determined “Jake Richardson” was actually Thomas.

During a search of the suspect, police located marijuana and multiple identifications with different names, including a VISA debit card with no name on the card, the citation states. Those items were seized and an investigation is ongoing.

Thomas was additionally charged with giving an officer false identifying information and possession of marijuana

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
