On Monday night, the Clarkson City Commission approved blacktopping sections of three roadways and agreed to replace the roof of the Clarkson Fire Department building.

Preparations have already begun for blacktopping a section of South Patterson Street, beginning about 180 feet from the intersection of West Main Street, until Wilkerson Street, a distance of about four-tenths of a mile.

Renfro Street will also be blacktopped from Vanmeter Street to 1st Street (behind the Post Office and City Hall). And strip patching will take place on Spring Street at the intersection of 2nd Street for approximately 120 feet east of the intersection.

Scotty’s Contracting and Stone will perform the work at a cost of $15,930.74.

Commissioners also voted to approve replacing the roof on the Clarkson Fire Department building. Doug Wright Roofing will complete the work at a cost of $12,075. Included in the bid are replacing the metal roof, adding new guttering, and the installation of four new down spouts, among other items.

The work will likely begin in October and take about a week to complete.
