Saturday morning at approximately 10:15, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police and EMS responded to the 3200 block of Grindstone Road on the report of a shooting.

According to first responders familiar with the incident, but not authorized to speak to its details, an unidentified 82-year-old man and Jonathan Decker, of Wax, became engaged in an argument that resulted in the elderly male shooting Decker in the abdomen, and Decker stabbing the elderly male in the abdomen.

It’s unclear whether the shooting or stabbing occurred first, or what preceded the incident.

After the incident, Decker fled the scene to a nearby mobile home.

Both men were transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by EMS. Neither man was immediately airlifted because of weather concerns, but both are believed to be receiving treatment at a trauma center.

According to a source familiar with the incident, the elderly male is likely to recover from his injuries, while Decker’s condition is much more serious and considered life-threatening.

A previous unconfirmed report that the two men are related was not accurate.

Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation.

This makes the second shooting on Grindstone Road in six days, as late Sunday night, February 11, Brian Blessitt accidentally shot himself in the chest. He’s expected to make a full recovery.
