Rental agreement for new ballpark complex

At Monday night’s Leitchfield City Council meeting, council members approved the rental agreement for the new Leitchfield Sports Complex.

Under the rental contract, organizations wishing to rent the facility will pay $150 per field, per day for the softball complex and $200 per day, per field for the baseball complex. There are several stipulations included in the agreement, including:

  • Use of the complex’s concession stand is not allowed, although concessions may be sold outside of the concession stand and must meet health codes.
  • The renter may collect a gate fee into the complex for tournament/event attendees only.
  • The renter is required to provide proof of insurance, and the city of Leitchfield must be added to the policy as an additional insured.
  • A checklist of eight items to be completed after the event is also included in the renter’s agreement to “assist the renter in recovering their deposit fee.”

The complex is undergoing last minute check lists by vendors and will soon be turned over to Public Works for final preparations before being handed to Parks and Recreation for use.

Drywall bids for animal shelter enclosure opened

City Attorney Kenneth Smart opened the only bid received by the city to complete drywall work at the new enclosure at the Leitchfield Animal Shelter.

Saltsman’s Drywall submitted the bid, but it contained items not in the city’s bid request. The $2,850 bid will be reviewed by Mayor William Thomason, council member Kelly Stevenson and City Clerk/Treasurer Lori Woosley, and a decision made on how to best proceed.

In the interest of time, council members opted not to reopen the bidding process.

Veteran’s Memorial flag pole issue

Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson was given approval to investigate the best way to fix the flag pole at the American Legion Post 81 Veteran’s Memorial Park.

The company that installed the 80-foot pole dropped it during the installation process and damaged the wiring and cables that run inside the pole, resulting in the flag not being able to be lowered.

The company that installed the pole has since gone out of business.
