The Clarkson boy seriously injured after being struck by an SUV as he crossed Millerstown Road on his bike has been released from a Louisville hospital.

On Monday afternoon, March 18 at approximately 5:20, 11-year-old Logan Whitsett was crossing the 1800 block of Millerstown Road on his bike when 62-year-old Debra Boone, of Caneyville, topped a blind hill, striking Logan and tossing him down a short embankment.

Kentucky State Police said Boone took evasive action to avoid striking the boy.

Logan, who was unresponsive at the scene, was airlifted from the Clarkson ball fields to Norton Children’s Hospital where he remained until Tuesday afternoon.

The soon-to-be 12-year-old suffered a broken jaw, a “slight” skull fracture near his temple, broken clavicle, and a compression of his spine in his lower back, as well as bruising and lacerations. He underwent surgery late last week where surgeons placed a plate in his jaw, Logan’s mother, Katina Whitsett said, but the plate will eventually be removed.

Katina Whitsett said she is “so thankful for the support and love shown by the community” in the aftermath of the accident.

Affirming Katina Whitsett’s appreciation for the community’s response to this near tragedy — Waiting for Logan when he arrived home on Tuesday was a new bike and helmet, courtesy of Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins and Sgt. Fred Norder. Katina Whitsett said Logan was thrilled and appreciative to receive the gifts.

Logan’s mother said he has not yet been cleared by doctors to return to classes at Grayson County Middle School, and that many check-ups and another surgery are in his future. But she added that her son is doing well (even though he can, at the moment, only eat soft foods), and while sore, he is moving around with little problem.

While Logan’s recovery is continuing, all the first responders this reporter spoke with who responded to the accident offered little to no hope for Logan’s recovery, making his near full-recovery in such a short period of time a miraculous event.
