The Lady Cougars won their fifth straight game, and their 1oth in their last 11, Friday night in the Cougar Den with an 81-69 win over visiting Butler County.

The 81 points scored was the most since December of 2013 versus McLean County.

The Lady Cougars started slowly in this game. When Jaelyn Taylor hit two free throws with 40.8 seconds left in the first period, the Lady Bears led by 12 points, 17-5. Grayson County trailed by nine points, 19-10 heading into the second period.

The Lady Cougars then turned up the heat, outscoring the Lady Bears 24-9 in the second period to lead by six points, 34-28 at the half. Senior Bailey Snyder hit a pair of three-pointers and scored 14 of her 25 points in the period.

Grayson County opened the third period by scoring the first six points to lead by 12 points, 40-28 at the 6:37 mark. When Rachael Snyder buried a three with 3:53 left, the Lady Cougars held their largest lead of the night, 14 points at 49-35. Grayson County led by eight points, 58-50 at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bears then opened the final period on a 4-1 run to close to within five points of the lead, 59-54. A lay-in by Butler County’s Jenna Phelps, who led all scorers in the game with 29 points, at the 3:59 mark closed the gap to just three points, 67-64, but that would be as close as the visitors would get.

Grayson County closed out the game with a 7-1 run to win going away.

Kenzie Renfrow and Rachael Snyder both had double-double nights for the Lady Cougars. Renfrow finished with 27 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals, while Snyder scored 19 points and led the team on the glass with 12 rebounds.
