
The fifth child swept away by flood waters in Bath County has been located.
Bath County Judge-Executive Bobby Rogers reported on is personal Facebook page the child was found deceased Saturday morning just before 11:30 local time.
The five Amish children and their mother, members of the Hochstetler family, were crossing a flooded stream on a “low-water bridge” Wednesday afternoon in a buggy when their horse slipped, spilling the family into the rapidly moving waters, Kentucky State Police said. The accident happened on Adams Road, near Salt Lick, about 20 miles west of Morehead.
Five children, ages one to 12, along with their mother, were swept away. The mother was able to make it to the bank and summon help. Four of her children were found deceased within hours of the accident. Over 300 volunteers, along with local and state law enforcement, including a helicopter, helped search for the missing children.
The Diocese of Lexington has made funeral arrangements for the family, according to Kentucky.com.
