Owner of large Bowling Green heating & air company arrested with over $200,000 in stolen farm equipment

The owner of Southern Kentucky Affordable Heating & Air in Bowling Green has been arrested with stolen items from three states worth over $200,000.

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, “The Warren County Criminal Investigations Unit has been investigating a subject that was to be in possession of several stolen items from different states and local areas. A search warrant was obtained and executed at the suspects residence on Goss Parrish Road in Bowling Green.”

Police said the suspect was identified as Douglas Burd, 56, of Bowling Green.

Authorities said the following stolen items were found in Burd’s possession: Kawasaki Mule ($15,000) stolen from Western Kentucky University; Cat Skid Steer ($15,000) stolen from Springfield, Tennessee; a Kubota Tractor ($34,500) stolen from Logan County: a John Deere Tractor ($50,000) stolen from Simpson County; a John Deere Mini Excavator ($40,000) stolen from Franklin, Indiana.

Several other “large-scale items’” were seized due to VIN/serial numbers being removed or altered, police added.

Burd was arrested Tuesday night and lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail on the following charges: Fraudulent Insurance Acts ($10,000 or more), five counts of receiving stolen property ($10,000 or more), receiving stolen property (under $10,000), eight counts of obscuring the identity of a machine (under 10,000.00),  and two counts of obscuring the identity of a machine ($10,000 or more).

The total amount of items recovered was $203,800.00, according to police, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Warren County Drug Task Force, Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green City Police Department, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, Kentucky Department of Insurance, and the Franklin, Indiana, Police Department.
