A longtime central Kentucky sheriff has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Thursday night just before midnight, Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Corman was spotted by witnesses driving erratically in an SUV near East Jessamine County High School. Nicholasville police responded and observed the vehicle cross the center line twice, according to media reports.

A traffic stop was initiated and when police made contact with Corman he was unsteady on his feet, as he failed a field sobriety test. A preliminary blood-alcohol breath test was administered, with the sheriff registering a .136, well over the legal limit of .08.

During a search of the SUV, officers located a cup containing bourbon (the SUV Corman was driving is his county-owned patrol vehicle).

He was arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving and possession an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle. He was lodged in the Jessamine County Detention Center but has since been released.

Corman was first elected sheriff in 2006 and has been employed by the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office since the 1990s, according to media reports.
