A juvenile has been charged in a deadly house fire.

Kentucky State Police said the fire occurred Tuesday morning at approximately 12:15 on Jackson Cemetery Road, about eight miles northeast of Morehead in Rowan County. Multiple fire departments responded to the blaze, along with state police.

Three people made it out of the residence safely, police said, but after the fire was extinguished, one occupant, 81-year-old Lloyd J. Riddle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rowan County Coroner’s Office.

Police said a juvenile has been charged with murder and first-degree arson in connection with the fire. Police have not released the relationship, if any, between the juvenile and the decedent.

The juvenile is being held in a juvenile detention center.

The blaze remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police arson investigators.
