A Clarkson felon who absconded from parole after multiple drug-related convictions has been arrested after fleeing Clarkson police.

Wednesday night at approximately 11:45, Clarkson Officer Blake Elmore was on patrol on Millerstown Street when he observed a Ford Explorer with an equipment violation, according to Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith. He followed the vehicle onto Bethel Church Road, with the driver pulling into his driveway in the 200 block of Bethel Church Road.

The driver, 26-year-old Ronny Ray Johnson, jumped out of the Ford and fled Elmore on foot for about 30 yards before stopping, Meredith said. Johnson then turned around on Elmore and got into a fighting stance before again fleeing on foot.

As Elmore gave chase, he gained ground on Johnson and tased the suspect, bringing the foot pursuit to an end.

Johnson was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police (on foot), resisting arrest and a non-moving violation. He was also served with the absconding warrant.

Arriving and assisting at the scene were Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Clay Boone and Deputies Nick Pruitt, Erik Franklin and Caleb Owens.

Johnson, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, was convicted in Grayson County in December 2020 for trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), three counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, drug unspecified), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is on parole until February 2024.
