Recovery crews continue to search for a Texas police officer who drowned at Lake Cumberland on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities said 61-year-old Robin Adair, who was a sergeant in the Rhome (TX) Police Department, went under the water as he swam near his rented houseboat. Adair’s wife, who is a dispatcher in Rhome, was with him and called for help when he went underwater and never resurfaced.
The incident occurred near Wolf Creek Dam where the water is between 120 and 170 feet, complicating efforts to locate Adair, as teams are using sonar to locate the body.
Adair was in law enforcement for 25 years, spending the past nine years in Rhome.
“He was one of the guys that never met a stranger,” Rhome Police Chief Sam Love told the Wise County Messenger. “He liked everyone he met and was always upbeat and happy. It’ll leave a big gap in the community. It’ll be hard to find someone to fill his shoes.”
