A Barren County Middle School teacher has been arrested after having sex with a 13-year-old student.
On Saturday morning, the Barren County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old William K. Gardner and charged him with second-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and tampering with physical evidence.
On Friday afternoon, a 13-year-old female student told authorities that she and Gardner had sexual contact on five occasions. When interrogated by police Saturday morning, Gardner admitted to investigators he had sex with the juvenile three times.
Gardner is being held in the Barren County Detention Center on a $75,000 cash bond.
The Barren County School District released the following statement on Gardner’s arrest:
Barren County Schools takes all allegations of sexual misconduct extremely seriously and is fully cooperating with law enforcement at this time. The school district will continue to closely monitor the situation and will take all appropriate actions necessary to protect our students.
