A Leitchfield man is facing over a dozen charges following a major drug bust by the Leitchfield Police Department at an apartment only a few hundred feet from a school.

Tuesday morning at approximately 5:15, LPD Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officer Brandon Puckett were dispatched to B&G Apartments (commonly referred to as Mill Street Apts.), at 713 Mill Street, directly across the road from Grayson County Middle School, on a welfare check.

Upon arriving at the apartment, Harrell and Puckett asked for and received permission from the tenant to enter the residence. Once inside, officers observed a plethora of drugs and drug trafficking paraphernalia in plain view throughout the residence, according to police.

Methamphetamine, a variety of pills, marijuana, and a handgun were seized, along with scales and other paraphernalia.

Officers arrested 32-year-old Clifton Dewayne Chapman, of Leitchfield, a felon, and charged him with trafficking in a controlled substance within a 1,000 feet of a school, four counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in marijuana, two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, heroin), having a prescription controlled substance not in its proper container, being a persistent felony offender, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, giving an officer a false name or address, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A few of the charges are the result of two Grayson County arrest warrants. He was also served with a warrant out of Barren County.

Chapman was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.

Assisting Harrell and Puckett at the scene were LPD Officers Eugene Cain and Ian Renfrow along with Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder.
