A Daviess County Detention Center inmate previously on suicide watch has tried to kill himself in a bathroom.

According to the detention center, Saturday morning at approximately 6:30, staff members discovered 48-year-old Chad A. Perkins, of Owensboro, hanging “inside the bathroom.” Staff members and medical staff “began rendering medical aid” before the inmate was transported to an Owensboro hospital.

Daviess County Jailer Art Maglinger said, “Perkins was triaged by the Mental Health Provider when he was booked into the jail on November 22, 2020. Perkins was initially placed on suicide watch at the time of his intake but was later reevaluated and cleared from suicide watch.”

He was then placed with the jail’s general population.

“An administrative review of the incident revealed that deputies were in compliance with their surveillance round checks at the time of the incident,” Maglinger said.

Perkins continues to undergo treatment at a hospital.

Perkins was jailed on strangulation and assault charges.
