The Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) has released a coronavirus update.

GCHD Director Josh Embry reported on Monday that six new cases of the virus have been confirmed since Friday. The new cases increase the county’s COVID-19 victim count to 2,057 (about one case per 13.1 Grayson Co. residents).

Embry said there are 25 active coronavirus cases in the county, six fewer than Friday.

No new deaths were reported, leaving the county’s COVID-19 death toll at 53.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,979 (96.2 percent) Grayson Co. residents have recovered from the virus.

Vaccination eligibility to expand in mid-April at GCHD

Embry said the GCHD will begin accepting vaccination appointments for Grayson County residents 18 and older beginning April 14.

At the present time, the health department is only scheduling appointments for those who fall into the 1A to 2 categories.

Other vaccination sites may not be in this phase, Embry said, as he encouraged residents to contact the various other vaccination sites for information on who they are currently inoculating.
