1,389 new COVID cases last two days, 25 deaths

Over the last two days, Gov. Andy Beshear reported a combined 1,389 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kentucky on Thursday (645) and Friday (744).

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 432,220 (about one case per 10.2 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported a combined 25 coronavirus deaths (includes five audit deaths) over the last two days, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 6,223 (1.4 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped from Wednesday’s 2.87 percent to 2.79 percent on Friday.

Hospitalizations decreased by one patient over the last two days to 382, while the number of people in intensive care fell by six to 106. Victims on ventilators declined by six patients to 60.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 21,083 (4.9 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 4,363 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 50,269 (11.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and officials said over 1.5 million Kentuckians have received at least one coronavirus vaccine.
