A 73-year-old Corbin man has been charged with attempting to kidnap a toddler and then offering to purchase the child.

Corbin police on Wednesday arrested Ronnie L. Helton after the suspect approached a mobile home and tried to kidnap a three-year-old boy who was playing outside. The child’s grandmother and her boyfriend were nearby and stopped Helton from taking the child, according to police.

Helton then offered the couple $1,000 for the boy, but the couple compelled Helton to leave the property, which he did. The grandmother, though, provided law enforcement with a detailed description of his vehicle, with officers arresting Helton a short time later.

Helton, according to a report by WKYT.com, has had previous run-ins with the law, as he was arrested in Clay County in 2019 for solicitation of prostitution.

The suspect was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center where he’s been charged with attempted kidnapping (minor) and promoting human trafficking (victim under the age of 18).

He’s being held on no bond.
