A Leitchfield man has been accused of strangling and striking a female victim in a vicious assault.

Friday night at approximately 6:45, Grayson County Deputy Sean Fentress was dispatched to St. Paul Road after a woman said 42-year-old Samuel L. Clark assaulted her after an argument about the woman not wanting to ride with Clark, who had been drinking, according to the arrest citation. When the victim told Clark she wasn’t going to get into a vehicle with him, Clark ripped the victim’s shirt “and began to hit her in the face, busting her bottom lip open.”

Clark is then accused of holding the woman on the ground, according to the citation, with Clark choking the victim, impeding her ability to breathe. The victim struck Clark with a bottle, with the suspect taking the bottle from the victim and hitting her with the object multiple times, the citation states.

The victim was able to free herself from Clark and ran to a neighbor’s home where Clark struck her in the face with a closed fist in front of multiple witnesses.

Clark left the area before law enforcement arrived, but he was arrested at about 7:30 Friday night at a Caneyville gun shop by Grayson County Sgt. Jason Luedke and Constable Mark Stanton.

Clark was charged with first-degree strangulation, a class C felony, and fourth-degree assault. He was also served with a warrant out of Jefferson County and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
